While at Caberfae Peaks, I broke my arm. Though the staff was mostly helpful in trying to take care of the emergency, it very much seemed like they were not considering it an actual emergency. As soon as I crashed, I knew my arm had been broken and communicated it to the staff. It was very visibly broken. However, the patrol staff decided to not take my word for it and instead took me to their small lodge to painfully and carelessly remove my large coat from my arm so they could gawk at my very visibly broken bones themselves. Only then did they finally call an ambulance with actual healthcare professionals, over a half hour after the injury occurred. While we waited for the ambulance, I offered numerous times to take off my rental boots for them. The staff refused, insisting I could just return the boots after I came back from the hospital. When the ambulance finally arrived, after I’d been strapped to the bed, was still awaiting pain medication over an hour later and we were about to leave, a man I can only assume was a Caberfae manager stopped the ambulance and insisted he be allowed inside to remove my boots. Again, I had offered to remove the boots numerous times prior. The EMT’s tried to tell him no, but he clearly did not care. He made them open the ambulance doors, came on board and ripped the boots off my feet, being rude to the EMTs the entire time. By the time I actually arrived at the hospital, they were not able to perform the necessary surgery until the next day because I had arrived so late in the afternoon. I can’t help but wonder that had the Caberfae staff taken my emergency seriously, if I would’ve been able to receive my surgery the same day. I’m very disappointed. The staff was kind, but if you’re looking for people that will take injuries and emergencies seriously, I strongly urge you to Ski elsewhere.
