Situated at the head of the Stubai Valley, the Stubai Glacier is the largest ski area in the Innsbruck area. It is also one of the most popular all-year ski destinations in Europe. Winter sees over 150 km of pistes aimed squarely at the beginner-intermediate. Only a handful of runs at Stubai Glacier are rated expert but the terrain does offer some good off-piste opportunities. The snow record is good but be warned; it can be seriously cold and there is little or no cover provided by trees as you are right at the top of the mountains. Off the slopes you will find two restaurants, a first class hotel and an après-ski bar. Local villages are the main source of accommodation but the proximity of Stubai Glacier to Innsbruck means that this is not really a problem. One hut provides accommodation on the mountain.

Visitor Reviews of Stubai Glacier
Will from United Kingdom writes:
Stubai is very good! Bearing in mind before you go this resort is all glacier! So if you don't like wide open huge motorway type runs it may not be for you. With that in mind, Stubai is unrivalled in glacier skiing! The biggest skiable glacier in Austria and maybe the world means there is 150km of slopes! When we went it had been snowing all night and had resulted in a mega 1m of snow. The glacial ski area itself is huge with vast expanse of ice and snow. The mountain restaurant we went to was self service but very good. The only downside at Stubai was the incredible 16km red run down from the glacier to the bottom lift. This run was huge in terms of length but very narrow in parts and we made the mistake of going back down at the end of the day just as everyone who had been on the glacier was coming down as well! It was pure chaos in parts and because of the carnage snow cover even after the 1m of snow was wearing away, However, snow cannons where blasting away. The run itself was in poor maintenance with stones in places, howvever, if there had been fewer people I might have actually enjoyed it!
Accommodation: There is no accommodation at the foot of the bottom lift, instead you have to stay in Neustift just down the valley.
