Alyeska Resort, in the United States (Alaska State), is a medium sized ski resort with 9 ski lifts (6 chair lifts, 2 surface lifts) that offers skiers an impressive 762 metres (2500 feet) of vertical descent. Alyeska Resort has 1400 acres of terrain over 68 trails. Alyeska Resort is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for beginners and advanced skiers. We have no information about the existence of any cross country ski trails at Alyeska Resort. For snowboarders, there is a terrain park and 2 half pipes. About one third of the trails at Alyeska Resort are covered by snow-making. The closest airport is at Anchorage and the transfer time is only 0.5 hours. There is accommodation located close to the pistes but we would welcome additional information about any hotels or chalets in Alyeska Resort.

When the North Face (under the tram) is open at Alyeska, the mountain goes from fun airs and very scenic views on the front side, to full on burly freeride resort on par with any.
When the Christmas and New Years chutes also open on the North Face of Alyeska, it rides as steep as Jackson, Squaw or Snowbird, only you won't wait in a line for the tram! These chutes go 45 to 50 degrees for the first several hundred meters, funnel to 6 meters, than open up to 700 meters vert of steep wide open terrain...add 700' snow and your odds are good for soft stuff.
If only the front side is open, there are still some steep options, but difficult to traverse to on a snowboard. The skiers rule here, but boarders seem to air it out off the catwalk pretty frequently and have fun too.
$120 can get one a room and ticket and the very nice and conveniently located resort hotel--winter is actually off season for them.
